Perseverance (Ship : 1795-1827) logbook, 1796-1798.

The logbook of the ship Perseverance details a shipping voyage from Salem, Mass., to Jakarta (Batavia), Guangzhou (Canton), and New York, Dec. 1796-April 1798. See Log 1795A for another log of this voyage. The ship's owner was Simon Forrester; the master and logbook keeper was Richard Wheatland. The ship's home port was Salem. The logbook includes notes on the equipment and supplies, specifically provisions, on board; shipboard occupations; and at least one death on board. During its voyage, the Perseverance spoke the ships Eliza (out of Providence, R.I.), Grand Turk (out of Salem), Minerva (out of Nantucket), and Ocean (out of New York).
